What Causes Inflammation On The Upper And Lateral Knee After Hip Replacement?

default
Posted on Mon, 31 Aug 2015
Question: I had a right hip replacement due to osetoporosis 3 years ago. I am now 51. The reason I am concerned is that I am having right lower leg pain in various areas including the thigh/femur, redness, warmth and swelling lateral knee area and shin pain. I have to sit down when I have a "spasm" that runs down my entire right leg. I am worried that all this is going on in the leg that I had my hip replacement done and with the new symptom of warmth and swelling to the upper, lateral knee. Tell me what you think please.

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. There is two important possibilities among many . One is you are having deep vein thrombosis. You can get your colour Doppler study to see this. There can be some associated infection as you are feeling warmth. You can take antibiotics and analgesic for it after consulting your doctor.
second possiblity can be cellulitis as your are feeling warmth . Again treatment is antibiotics and analgesic. You are also advised your vitamin D and vitamin B12 test as vitamin D deficiency is important cause of such unexplained pains. Vitamin and trace elements supplements are helpful.

You can discuss with your doctor about it.

Hope your query get answered. If you have any clarification then I will be happy to help you.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.
