What Causes Increased Visibility Of Veins In The Body?

default
Posted on Thu, 3 Nov 2016
Question: Hi,

In the past 7 weeks or so I've had veins throughout my body become visible and they appear bulging and wide. Im overweight and my veins, even in pregnancy bave always been difficult to see. Just the pressure from my shoes seems to make new ones show, or I noticed this with my palm and using the mouse. They are even beginning to show at my temples. Its become upsetting as Ive had lots of muscle pain as well including fatigue. I have some edema and it seems consistant in my hands and neck area. I have pain under my jaw and ears along with my temples on both sides. I am very fatigued. I've had night sweats and woken with a racing heart. I have what looks like Raynauds on and off through the day with white spots occuring on under my skin. My heart was checked via cardio, holter and echo to be okay. I have fatty liver disease and fibromyalgia. I had bloodwork done and my tsh, esr, and other bloods were good except my livers alt, ast, and alp. my blood cortisol was normal. My c reactive protein was around 7.8 and has been tested twice in a matter of months. I don't know if this is an edocrine, rheumatology or vascular issue. I am not certain what to ask my GP to please do, ie. who to refer me too. Thank you for your help.

Brief Answer:
Visible Veins

Detailed Answer:
Good evening

Thank you for writing on health care magic

I have gone through your history and I believe no tests have helped reach you any conclusion yet.

As of now, We have ruled out any serious causes of these visible veins like Cardiac and liver. Cushings disease also has been ruled out...( normal Cortisol)

Addressing your symptoms:

1. For visible veins you should meet a vascular department and get a color doppler.. We will know the size of veins, or if they have any inflammation going . It doesnt look like blockade as it is happening everywhere.

I do want to know if you have been losing weight. Weight loss is a very common cause of the veins becoming visible.

2. As for Raynauds, Is it happening on the fingers or toes as well?? Does it happen only on cold exposure...???

3. The temple pain you mentioned..Does it get worse after meals??/DO you have any pain in the scalp while combing hair??

4. Could you throw some light on the miscarriage you had...Which trimester was it?REason for blood transfuion??Has your Hb been ok after it...??Did they figure out the cause for miscarriage.

5. How long have the night sweats been going on.???Do you have any fever associated??

6. The worsening of fatigue can be due to Fibromyalgia... But we need to rule out any autoimmune cause..
Capillary leak syndrome can be a possibility in your cause causing visible veins and edema...So we do need to look at ANA( not sure if it has been carried out)

As of now, We need a vascular specialist on board. I dont think it is any endocrine problem here...Do let me know these queries and I will try to guide you in the best possible way...
