default
Posted on Thu, 9 Nov 2017
Question: Hello,

Yesterday with in the hour, I felt like I had to sneeze but couldn't. Soon after being unable to sneeze I felt a burning sensation in my left nostril which continued the rest of the day. Later in the day, I started experiencing upper left gum pain. The above symptoms have continued upon waking up this morning except that the burning sensation is now on both nostrils and I have some hoarseness in my voice. I do not have congestion, cough, or runny nose. Physically I feel fine and I had a positive head to toe physical in the past six months. No allergies, I smoke 1 and 1/2
Packs cigarettes a day.
Please advise.
Thank you

Brief Answer:
Likely to be laryngitis and upper airways inflammation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome and thanks for your query.
The hoarseness of voice is due to an inflammation of the vocal cords. The agent causing the same is likely to be responsible for the burning of the nostrils also. There are two common possibilities 1. the smoke 2. viral infection.
Try to stop smoking and take voice rest and you are likely to be better. Along with that drink warm fluids and eat wholesome foods and avoid smoky, dusty or cold weather.
If you are not better in a couple of days, have yourself examined by an ENT doctor.
