Question: Dear Doctor ,

My son who is 11 years old has been experiencing heard burn during food intake . The sensation is just below the neck region . He is having summer vacations and is a late riser thus having empty stomach for 2/3 hours in the morning . We gave him some Pudi XXXXXXX yesterday and he had some relief . Could you suggest some remedy and if there is any change in diet which he needs to make .

Brief Answer:
try pantoprazole

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
From your description it looks like your son has probably acid Reflux along with gastritis.
There are few things I would suggest
1. Avoid late rising in the day. If stomach is empty for a long time it is bound to develop acid induced damage.
2. Late night snack with fruits or milk will help.
3. I usually prescribe pantoprazole around 20 mg twice daily before food to decrease the symptoms.
4. Restrict spicy or oily foods.
5. Ensure plenty of liquids and water.
6. Sleeping with a higher pillow will help in decreasing the acid Reflux.

Wishing your child good health.
Regards
Dr Arun
