What Causes Headaches And Stabbing Pain In Right Ribs?
Question: I have been having weird 'attacks' for about a year. My appendix was removed in emergency surgery in 2013 so it's not that. I feel all of the time like I have a lump pushing out under my right rib, but I'm very over weight and sometimes I think it's just fat. But I can feel it internally sort of, it the same way I could feel the pressure of the surgeon pushing stuff around when I had a c-section. Anyway, sometimes after eating or just after stress, my gut puffs up like I'm about 42 weeks pregnant (which I've been so I know). It's so bad I almost can't take a breath like my lungs are being crushed and my stomach is hard as a rock. I feel like the food (if I've eaten) is hovering right at the base of my throat like if I leaned over it would fall right out. It's so gross. But I never vomit (I have never been a vomiter at all except with my first pregnancy so I'm not sure how much not vomiting means for me.) I went about 9 months ago to an Urgent Care and they did an EKG and said my heart was fine, it was just acid reflux and prescribed a prescription level dose of Omeprazole. So I was taking OTC Prilosec at a double dosage ever since, and for awhile it seemed to help but it's getting worse. I've had high blood pressure since my first pregnancy 16 years ago and currently am not taking anything for it. We moved in August of 2015 and I left behind the bariatric clinic where I was making some good progress and there is nothing comparable near me anymore so I haven't had any treatment since then. Today I woke with a splitting headache, my feet are all swollen looking like XXXXXXX Flintstone's. I finally broke down and went to get a BP cuff and it said 173/98. I rested for about 45 minutes thinking trip might have me anxious or something and when I took it again it was 169/102. As ancillary symptoms I have panic attacks, I get hot and "swimmy" in my head and neck, and I really don't think I eat enough to be so fat. Most days I eat a sandwhich or a single plate of food for an evening meal after the whole day eating nothing but maybe popping some mints to chew on so I don't grind my teeth. I drink almost exclusively water, maybe one soda every couple of weeks, and usually one cup of coffee in the morning.
I want to discuss these symptoms and what they might mean in preparation for seeing a physician. There are so many of them I feel like they can't possibly be all related and if they are I can't imagine how.
Oh, I didn't think to add that I've had very severe menses and ovarian cysts my whole adult life. The headaches are not unusual either, and when I have the attacks I get a sharp, stabbing pain in the side of my right ribs under my arm as well as a mor dull, soreness in my back a little higher than midway.
