default
Posted on Mon, 31 Aug 2015
Question: My husband, age 73, woke up with a bad headache, his jaw is painful, he has a large sore on his forehead, and both of his eyes look like a blood vessel has broken. The eye, which is on the same side as his jaw hurting ,is very swollen. He is not dizzy, his balance is fine, but something is definitely wrong!

Brief Answer:
Possible Temporal Arteritis?Need Confirmation.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam,

I understand your concern.

Many of your husband's symptoms point to possible temporal arteritis.

For this I advise you to get a Temporal artery biopsy.

Additional eye examination through Fundoscopy is also mandate.

Temporal arteritis can cause headache,as well as eye and jaw symptoms.

Treatment is based on test findings.

Usually Corticosteroids forms the mainstay of treatment.

Post your further queries if any.

Thank you.

Since it is a weekend, can this wait until Monday or should we consider this an emergency. His headache has tapered off ,though not completely gone.
I should add that he is eating normally.
