What Causes Headache After Rigorous Exercises?

default
Posted on Thu, 3 Jul 2014
Question: question about my 16 year old son. He did some rigorous exercises yesterday (pull ups) and immediately began to complain of the headache. I gave him aspirin, and in the morning it went away. Today we were flying back home from California to the East Coast. And on the plane, he began to complain again, headache, feels as if he is diving deep into the water, feels tense, and can't sleep from pain. It is 4 am in XXXXXXX Should I wait and let him fall asleep, or try to go to the emergency.

Brief Answer:
Hi and welcome to HCM

Detailed Answer:
It is hard to say is it related this exercise but it is possible. During such exercises, neck muscles can be pulled out or neck vessels become dilated and this can lead to headache. It should subside within few days,he should take some nonsteroid painkillers( ibuprofen),drink enough fluids and rest, avoid lights, noise and smoky areas. some more serious intracranial diagnoses are rarity in his age, but if pain persist more than 1 week or other neurologic symptoms occur, then you should seek medical attention. At this point I dont think this is neccesary. WIsh you good health. Regards
