default
Posted on Tue, 30 Jun 2015
Question: I'm 69 years old and have been nauseous off and on for the last few days. I had no vomiting until last night. It's always a feeling of almost wanting to throw up but not quite there. It also affects my appetite...don't want to eat.

Brief Answer:
antiemetics, PPI

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

It appears to be GERD ( Gastro esophageal reflux disease ). If you vomited once and now are feeling persistent nausea then it could also be secondary to some medication that you might be using. The most common culprit being NSAIDs. If you were my patient , I would have administered anti emetic like metoclopramide, PPI like esomeprazole through parenteral route. Isotonic fluids can be given to restore any fluid electrolyte balance that might have been disturbed with the vomiting. Oral medication involving the same , can be prescribed for 10 days. This can be initiated after you are able to comfortably take food orally without feeling of nausea and vomiting. Please go to an E.R or doctor near you. You may discuss this with your treating physician.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks

I had been taking Contrave but stopped a couple of days ago. I thought maybe that was the reason. Today I just ate a bit and the feeling of slight nausea came back. I also take Plaquinel for RA.

Detailed Answer:
hi.

Yes, both drugs can lead to effects such as nausea and vomiting. I would take Plaquinel as more likely to have had an increased nausea and gastritis potential in the presence of Contrave. A PPI can be advised along with these drugs for a month to reduce its effect on the G.I tract.

Let me know if you have any query

Thanks.
