What Causes Frequent Joints Pain In Wrist And Knees?

default
Posted on Fri, 4 Sep 2015
Question: I have had joint pain in my wrist back and knees for at least the past ten years. It has grown more frequent in the last six years. Pain subsides with prednisone but has caused side effects such as depression and anxiety. I have lost more than forty pounds. Doctors have run numerous test over the past three years from arthritus, lupus, lyme and so many blood test. My current doctor is trying to get Emory to take my case but so far no feedback. I have also been sent to a psycologist who only treats the depression and anxiety. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
I had gone through your question very diligently and I will definitely help you in best possible way.
Here, I would like further information for better assessment of the condition
1. Are you having morning stiffness on rising in knee or back?
2. Have you noticed any joint deformity in last 10 years
3. Do you smoke or consume liquor
4. Do you take high protein diet
5. Any diurnal variation in pain like intensity increases in morning or in evening
6. Do you find any difficulties in falling asleep due to pain
7. If possible for you upload me all the blood and radiological reports like MRI back and knee.

Meanwhile please follow these guidelines
continue with the medicines you are taking
Avoid sitting in squatting position
Avoid lifting heavy weight; sudden bending forward
use hard bed to sleep
Discard using pillow
Stretching exercises and physiotherapy might help you to an extent.

Please write back to me with all the details I have asked so that I will be able to tell you more accurately
Best wishes

Hello
Welcome again and thanks for the details
Looking at your description, worsening of pain in the morning and response to prednisone is suggestive of chronic inflammatory disease of the joints

Since you haven't send me the reports and I can't physically examine you to get more clues so in my opinion you should see a rheumatologist in your won time and comfort. Emory school of medicines is so far considered to be a good institute and I am sure you will definitely come to know about exact diagnosis.

DMARDs ( disease modifying anti rheumatic drugs) group of drug can be prescribed to you under supervision to prevent further damage to teg joints

Hope this answers your question
Please feel free to ask for more clarification I will be happy to help you
Best wishes
