What Causes Foreign Body Granuloma After Facial Nerve Graft For Bell's Palsy?

Question: II had a facial nerve graft for bells palsy. only the first part, where surgeon put a nerve from my lower leg into my face. I developed a large hermonta where I was told they put a sheet of silicone in my face. When my face had a bad reaction to the silicone I went to my doctors office. At that time, my face was reopened in his office not a hospital. I later developed bacteria infections and bad scaring. My question, is there certain precedures that can be done in a office and ones that would require a surgical facility. After my face was reopened in the office and the silicone taken out, I developed a foreign body granuloma, and bad scars. Not sure if I should have the second part of the surgery. Any answers or advice would be appreciated.

Brief Answer:
Surgical procedures need sterility.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.

Surgical and microsurgical procedures need sterilized instruments and appropriate conditions.

Foreign body granulomas happen in a number of people after cosmetic/ silicon fillers placement under the skin, as a autoimmune reaction.

Their treatment consists in conservative treatment ( corticosteroids, retinoids, allopurinol, minoycline), and in surgical removal.

In my opinion you should discuss with your treating Doctor both possibilities, conservative and surgical treatment, expectations from these treatments.

If surgery is used to correct scars too, I think this is the best option for your case.

In the end it is you that should decide which one treatment is best for you.

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
