What Causes Fluttering Sensation In The Lower Abdomen?

default
Posted on Thu, 18 Aug 2016
Question: Yes. about a month ago I noticed a small flutter below my left pelvic bone. It was consistent whenever I was about to have a bowel movement or pass some gas. I always know when one or the other is going to happen fairly soon. It is not painful, but feels more like the "flutter" I felt while pregnant and the baby was moving. I have had a sigmoidoscopy 15 years ago and a colonoscopy 9 years ago when I was 51. Both were negative. I have been planning on having another this fall. What could this be? I do not tend to be constipated.

Brief Answer:
Normal

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your query.

Flutter when there is gas in the colon is normal. This happens when the gas escapes through solid masses of feces. Most of times they are subtle and cannot be felt but heard.

If they are felt often, I believe there is a need to rule out any solid masses like polyps.

Do proceed with getting the scopy. If turns out normal, then there is no need to worry.

Hope, I answered your query.

Wish you good health.
