What Causes Excessive Sweating Upon Loss Of Consciousness?

default
Posted on Mon, 21 Sep 2015
Question: I have the following symptom- I instantly break out in a sweat whether I lose consciousness- even if it's only for a second. If unconsciousness is momentary my collar is soaked. If it's for 5-10min my hair is also soaked. If I sleep for a little longer I have to change my shirt. But My Biggest problem however is that over the last couple of months is that if I am in bed, asleep, for 3-4 or more hours I wake up completely soaked- worse if I'm even a little under the covers I'm a white male, 53, 6ft2, 198lbs, architect, married, twins- 20yr. I probably have always had sleep apnea but haveused a CPAP since 2000. I have been treated for depression since 2002, and treated for asymmetrical hypertrophy cardiomyopathy since 2006, neck fusion in 2006, lower back surgery in 2009 to remove a portion of bone pressing on the nerves, i exercise, drink little, currently have no restrictions (doctor prescribed) on activities or food

Brief Answer:
Dysautonomia

Detailed Answer:
Sounds like some type of hyperhidrosis which is a form of dysautonomia (autonomic function malfunction). You may benefit from autonomic function testing to discover what characteristics may be present in the dysautonomic symptoms. There is a specific variation which involves excessive sweating of the face and head referred to as craniofacial hiperhydrosis.

Treatment depends upon how successful your doctor is at discovering the underlying reason and treating it

I would love to hear what the outcome of this situation turns out to be and I do hope you get this addressed as quickly as possible.
