What Causes Excessive Day Time Sleepiness?

Question: Hi,
for last 2 years i have day time sleppiness problem. unable to focus. I sleep for about 9 hours but still feel drowsiness. This problem increases especially after consuming protein rich food. I have recently tested for Blood ammonia level and it is 103 ugms/dl. What should I do.
Is my liver not functioning properly. Which test should I take.

I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.

Your unexplained sleepiness is due to high ammonia. Ammonia is produced from protein metabolism. So as you take more protein rich food your lethargy is increased. High ammonia level may be due to some liver disease like acute hepatic necrosis, cirrhosis or encephalopathy. It may be seen in other conditions like acute leukemia.

Smoking and exercise can lead to rise in ammonia.
You should go for complete liver function test with ultrasound abdomen. Also go for complete blood count.
Avoid high protein diet and smoking.
