Posted on Mon, 21 Apr 2014
Question: Hi, I have been experiencing erectile dysfunction for the past 45 days. I can get an erection but cannot maintain it for more than 30 seconds. Sometimes have not been able to get an erection also. What is the reason for this? I used to smoke weed regularly and stopped about 2 months ago cause my wife and I are trying to have a baby. Also used cocaine 3 to 4 times a week about 6 years ago for a period of 6 months. Stopped that but have used it recreationally after about 3 times a year, but have not used in last 4 months.

Thank you for your answer...what about my past drug usage? Could that be having an impact...I spoke with my physician and he said that even if there is a low testosterone issue he would not prescribe testosterone replacement as it would be counterproductive to getting my wife pregnant as this reduces fertility...is this correct?

Brief Answer: Drugs may have an impact. monitor testosterone Detailed Answer: Hi, Thanks for the followup. Yes the past drug usage may have an impact especially in maintaining the erection. Since as explained before maintaining erection mainly depends on your pleasure and excitement during sex. Usually drug addiction this will be affected. Smoking can affect blood vessels so I advised to get investigated using ultrasonography if there any problem in vascular supply. Testosterone is low needs to be addressed by giving replacement therapy. If the correct dosage is given then there won't be any problem but will be helpful in increasing fertility. Hope this helps you Regards
