Question: Sickness: Start getting dizziness while going to sleep and while wake up.

My mother age is 53 years old and she is pure vegetation. She is housewife. No diabetes, No high/low blood pressure.

One year ago my mother had a problem getting pain in leg due to may be because of artery are squeeze each other while sleeping. Generally pain is started in mid night about 5 to 10 min while she was sleeping. Doctor suggest her to not to put pillow below the head while and do some medicine. Now she is not getting any pain after the treatment.

But form last two days ago she is facing a different problem while going to sleep on the bedstead she had start getting dizziness for few minute and the same problem is repeated about 5 to 10 minute while wake up. But after wake of she fills normal. She can do have work normal for the whole day. This sickness only starts while going to sleep and while getting awake.

Doctor said because of squeezing of artery with each other or with muscles the artery its gets Lump at some part and it will take about one month get normal.

Please explain more about this disease, its symptoms, what are the causes? How it diagnosed? How its trite? What are preventive and measures of the same?
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
possibility of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
First the cause of pain in legs in night on going to bed may be a manifestation of restless leg syndrome. This disorder is associated with pain in legs mostly calf region with some relief on moving legs and mostly perceived during sleep time.
For this fasting iron profile is done and if deficient in iron then supplementation is given. Also dopamine agonist like pramipexole can be tried in low doses. Some calcium and multi vitamin can also be tried.
Second problem is recent onset vertigo which occurs only in supine position and is transient.
This can be benign paroxysmal positional vertigo charactersied by sudden onset dizziness with nausea occurring for few seconds to minutes and associated with nausea particular posture. This is due to otolith movements in semicircular canal of inner ear. This is benign condition and may be treated by Apley's maneuver.
Symptoms may be prevented on avoiding the lateral position in which such dizziness is felt. You need to visit a ENT or neurologist for proper evaluation, examination and treatment. Other possibilities like cervical spondylosis or vascular lower limb involvement are less likely a cause.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
