What Causes Dizziness, Lightheadedness And Weakness While Breastfeeding?

Question: Hello,

I am a working mother of a 1 year old. I still breastfeed during nights and pump during day. Off late I have not been feeling very fit. I have been facing bouts of dizziness/light headed-ness and have been facing difficulty concentrating.
I have been feeling weak during this time when dizziness remains.

Is there anything in particular I should be checking for?

It is good that you are trying to wean the baby slowly. Please make sure that you do not develop any infection due to engorgement.

Your present complaints suggest general weakness, probably related to the viral fever you suffered recently. General ill nourishment can add to this. Please get a general check up with a physician and rule out causes like anemia and hypo-proteinemia.

Concentration problems can arise with lack of proper sleep, fatigue, stress, anemia, thyroid disorders and neurological causes. Check for improvement by attending to the common causes first; otherwise, go for further investigation.

If you have attained normal menstruation, excessive bleeding during periods could be another cause of the general weakness and this should be treated.
