What Causes Delayed Menstruation Along With Heavy Vaginal Bleeding In An Elderly Person?

default
Posted on Wed, 6 Jan 2016
Question: I had a period that was 10 days late, but the first day was extremely heavy. The blood soaked through my clothes and coat and car. It lasted about six days but with normal bleeding after that first day. Pryor to having my period I thought I may have been pregnant, however, the period confirmed that I was not pregnant. What could have caused that? By the way I'm 43 and that was the first time anything like that ever happened.

Brief Answer:
Could be due to mild hormonal changes.

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am,
Thanks for trusting hcm about your health care.
I have gone through your history and understand your concerns.
As you are 43 yrs.of age ,you are going through perimenopausal stage( stage before menopause) in which due to hormonal changes you may get delayed menses along with heavy bleeding.
But if heavy bleeding persists then you should consult a Gynecologist and get yourself examined and ultrasound scan done to rule out the common causes like fibroid, adenomyosis, polyp other than hormonal changes.
Hope found useful, feel free to discuss more information.
Good luck.
Regards
