Posted on Wed, 8 Jul 2015
Question: Hello .. I was trying to conceive from March 2015 but didn't get any results in those two months. In May 2015 i visited to gynaecologist and she asked me to try for 3 months more before going for any tests. And she gave me medicine CCQ 50 to take from 3rd day of cycle for the next five days...

This month before my periods start i noticed some spotting from last 3-4 days and now when my periods starts bleeding is in low quantity its not as like i used to have before taking this tablet... I had taken CCQ 50 only 5 days in May .. can it be the side effect of this tablet ? Can continue to have this tablet and also can it cause any further side effect?

What i used to have have bleeding its only 1/3 of that ...

What can be cause ??

I want to know CCQ tab can cause any side effect and this reduces bleeding is any of its side effect..?

Can i continue taking CCQ.. Its safe?

Its normal for a couple to take more than 3-4 months to conceive ?

Can u guide me the days in which intercourse is important for conceiving ?

Brief Answer:
Clomiphene can have such side effect

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. CCQ is clomiphene citrate 50 mg which is an ovulation induction drug given to assist ovulation and hence increase the chances of conception.
Clomiphene citrate causes side effects like:
-Mood swings, psychological / emotional side effects
-Hot flashes
-Abdominal discomfort
-Visual disturbances
-Ovarian cyst formation
-Nausea
-Reduced production of cervical mucous
Clomiphene citrate can also decrease the thickness of the uterine endometrium, and hence the flow in the periods can be decreased under its effect. However, decreased flow or spotting can also be indication of pregnancy, therefore I suggest you to get a urine pregnancy test to confirm. If the test is negative, you can safely continue taking CCQ-50.
Chances of conception in a single menstrual cycle is 20-25%, therefore it is normal for a couple to conceive upto one year after trying.
For maximum chances of conception, a couple should have unprotected intercourse from day 8 to day 22 of the menstrual cycle, preferably every alternate day.
