Brief Answer:
Detailed ENT examination, laryngoscopy will be needed...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. I would like to ask you few more details.

Is there any associated belching or burning sensation in the chest ?
Is your cough associated with nasal blockage ?

Kindly get back to me with details.

As per your clinical details, cough and throat irritation could be due to

1. Sinusitis - postnasal drip (sinus secretions trickle through back of throat) causes irritation of mucosa leading to cough and pharynx infection(stasis of secretions).

2. Acid reflex- partially digested stomach contents regurgitates into voice box (cough) and into throat ( irritation sensation).

I suggest you to consult an ENT surgeon and give detailed history (aggravating factors of acid reflex -smoking, alcohol, medications), detailed ENT examination (deviated septum or polyp causing sinusitis), If necessary laryngoscopy-to know the status of voice box (larynx) due to acid reflex.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
