What Causes Constant Pain In Left Hand Thumb

default
Posted on Tue, 18 Aug 2015
Question: I am having constant pain on the left hand thumb. I have no visible swelling, or any visible discoloration of the outer skin. The pain seems to be internal. It gets frozen sometimes. Touching the area induces pain. I cannot use the left hand to do anything because of the pain. And the pain is very excruciating. It feels like a sting, like some bone inside broke, and the little bits are piecing on the outer skin. I have applied vicks rub, drank pain killer like acetaminophen pills- Tylenol, and the pain still exist, as if all these remedies I used are not effective, or are not fighting the pain.

Brief Answer:
There could be lots of causes. You need to get it examined.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, the cause of the pain is not understood.
Did you get injured any time? Was it exposed to extreme cold?
Does it stay all the time?
I suggest you consult a Surgeon who can examine you and ask him to check your pulses also.
Also get an XRay done to rule out a bony injury.
It could also be a deep abscess of cellulitis which can be ascertained only by examination. Without examining you it is very difficult for me to say what it is.
Do get these thing done and let me know.
Take care,

No, I did not get injury or anything. I had a furuncle that developed under my left armpit, which resulted to a pus. it was cut open and Swiss out, removing the furuncle and clearing the pus at the emergency room. The pain after the minor surgery stop. But as the surgery area started to heal slowly, the thumb pain came back. This is about 4 weeks after the minor surgery. I noticed I feel numbness at the thumb most when I consume a cold drink. The feel the pain whenever I move the left arm. I use my arm often, along with the right arm, so there is no way I will keep it still all day without using it. I feel pain when I lift up something less weight like XXXXXXX XXXXXXX novel, or Chemistry textbook.

Brief Answer:
There could have been injury to nerves in armpit.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for the reply.
The symptoms are quite mixed. Therefore I suggest you get examined by a Surgeon. Only examination can give some clues to the possibilities of diagnosis. There could be nerve compression or injury at the armpit site leading to these problems.
Please get examined and let me know.
Take care.
