Posted on Thu, 29 Dec 2016
Question: Hi Doctor,

I'm having recurrent folliculitis on my scalp. It doesn't seem to fi away despite all the treatments I've tried so far which includes different shampoo, stopping use of oil and a bunch of antibiotics courses. Please suggest a more permanent and effective remedy.

Brief Answer:
Tablet rifampicin and capsule doxycycline

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for being at healthcaremagic
I have gone through your complaints and noted your concern.
Folliculitis is chronic and recurrent in some individuals and may require treatment for long durations.
In cases of recurrent folliculitis I recommend my patients to take tablet rifampicin 600 mg once daily in the morning empty stomach along with capsule doxycycline 100 mg once daily at night for 4-6 weeks.
I also advise them to apply topical antibiotic like mupirocin cream or clindamycin cream on the affected areas twice daily.
These are prescription drugs and should be taken under the supervision of the doctor.
Regards
Dr Asmeet
