What Causes Burning Sensation During Urination?

Question: I am taking Amoxycillin for an abscess. And had a burning when urinating this morning, but not since. Had unprotected oral sex ten days ago. No discharge. wondering if the antibiotic being used for the abscess would mask GC, if indeed I had it.

That is possible. Amoxcillin has some effect on bacteria down there.

If it was me, I would see a doctor within 3 days if the burning continues. All you need is a urinalysis.

The treatment is more antibiotics!

thank you. I only had the burning once, this morning....it doesn't seem to have persisted. And I only just started the Amoxycillin, as I had the tooth pulled this morning. I urinated again before I took the first dose and it didn't burn. I also did some new lower abdominal exercises the day before, which I can also feel as a strain in the general area. Would the amoxycillin at that lower dose, stop the burning that quickly if indeed GC were present?

Gonorrhea is very resistant to amoxicillin worldwide so it has very little effect on the treatment and should not change the urinalysis results. In addition, this could be chlamydia. Are you having any discharge? In particular, gonorrhea and chlamydia both have burning with urination in the morning and occasionally have discharge throughout the day. Sometimes you also have an itch.

thanks again. And no, Sir.....no discharge whatsoever. Just one morning with what felt like a burning sensation. No itching. I had GC a long time ago, and I remember how it was....and this hasn't followed that course....it was just a tightness and burning type sensation, which hasn't recurred yet. My concern was about the taking of the Amoxycillin, IF by some chance GC is present. I appreciate your input about it not affecting urinanalysis. If it continues I will most definitely seek medical attention.

I can't find the most current research on gonorrhea and resistant to amoxicillin but last time I checked it was pretty high. You could be the lucky one to have a non resistance form which is going to respond to amoxicillin. However, this is probably unlikely. I understand your concerns and I would seek a medical professional like I described if you continue to have the pain and or develop discharge.

I do intend to seek medical attention, even if it does not continue. Just to re-assure any doubt. I am aware of how resistance certain strains are now.....and I rarely take antibiotics myself except in the rare instance like this abscessed tooth. Because I am aware of the high resistance, I wanted to be clear about the impact the taking of Amoxy could have if GC were present. I appreciate the input. Thank you.
