What Causes Bumps That Look Like Mosquito Bites Around The Buttocks And Genitalia?

Question: About 14 days ago I woke up to 5 or 6 bites on my outter bottocks/upper thigh area. Looked similar to mosquito bites but They were very tender, like a bad bruise feeling and NO itching at all and were not raised. After 5 -7 days I notced they seemed about 90% healed and were no longer painful at all. The very next day they began itching and swelling like crazy and now spreading! My pea sized bites have now become a huge raised itchy welt that literally looks like a map of Europe. The affecred area is about the same color as a mosquito bite. No puss or "heads" and has defined edges to the now massive welt. My husband has no bites and I haven't incurred any new bites since the initial once 2 weeks ago. Also, I have been looking up picture of bedbug bites and have come to the conclusion that this is not bedbugs. The bites don't look the same and also the initial symptom was tenderness vs itching.

I have been on vacation this last week (which is when morphed into the itching huge welt) which is why I haven't seen a doctor yet. For the time being I had been treating with cleaning with alcohol and aplying Lanicane cream for the itching (which had an antibiotic in it). It hardly did anything for the itching whatsoever so I tired hydrocortisone cream which was a little better but only slightly (took my itching from a 10 to a 7 for a very short period of time).

I am going to a doctor as soon as I get back to town...but I'm hoping to be pointed in the right direction of what sort of bug causes my list of sympthoms.

I live in the Midwest (Ohio). My bedroom is in a finished basement but my bed located near a closet that contains a sump pump..if that's helps.

I have just moved so this will be my first visit to a knew doctor and I do not yet know just how versed they will be on such things so I figured more brains will help to get an accurate answer. Thanks!
