What Causes Bumps At The Back Of The Tongue?

default
Posted on Wed, 21 Sep 2016
Question: The back of my tongue has big bumps on it and, for at least a week, the left side of my throat is sore. For over a month certain things have tasted off. Like peanut butter and v8. Certain things smell off as well. Cranberry juice, hairspray, scrambled eggs, and eucalyptus. These are just a few examples. Also, my flatulence smells peculiar and when I belch it tastes strange. Can you give me some ideas as to what the heck is wrong?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking on HCM!
I read carefully all your concerns and I can say as follows :
1.Your symptoms like big bumps on tongue and missing smell and taste for certain foods may be related with:
- throat infection
- Gerd (acid reflux)
- papilitis cause by trauma, sour food, smoking, viral infection etc.
2. If I were your treating doctor I would suggest to :
- use PPI 's treatment like prilosec OTC
- keep Ices of mouth to reduce the local inflammation
- use analgesic if you have pain.
- keep in mouth as long as you can honey plus baking soda (putting baking soda to honey )
If the symptoms doesn't improve after a couple of days than you need to do throat and tongue swab to check out throat infection.
Hope it was helpful to you!
