Hi.... what you are telling is called cervical lymphadenopathy. This is a very common phenomena in kids of this age. Even mild upper respiratory problem like cough and cold and fever and any skin infection on the head and neck area and scalp can cause this. This just means that the child is fighting the infection. The WBC will be developing in the lymph nodes. So any infection which requires WBC maturation will cause the lymph nodes in the drainage area to swell. This is being manifested like small nodular swellings over both sides of the neck region.

Moreover the ppd test or the Mantoux test has been negative, so please be rest assured.

I will suggest you with danger signs when you need to worry and further investigate the kid -

1. High grade fever which is going on for many days.

2. The swellings on both sides of the next increasing inside very rapidly.

3. Loss of appetite.

4. Unexplained weight loss.

5. Limb pains or bone pains and respiratory distress or breathing difficulty.
