What Causes Brown Bloody Discharge And Soreness In Back And Pelvis?

default
Posted on Tue, 13 Jan 2015
Question: So I have had a sore back and pelvis for about a week and a half now. At first I thought it was PMS. My period that came was weird, more like a brown bloody discharge that lasted five days. However, the sore back and pelvis persisted after the bleeding stopped. I was quite concerned I could have been pregnant and experiencing implantation bleeding, but I have now been pretty much convinced pregnancy is extremely unlikely. I was in close sexual contact (penis rubbed against vagina but no penetration) two days before my period was due, but the period came as normal, and the next "period" (the brown bloody discharge) came 28 days after the previous period, so on time. I also took a pregnancy test yesterday just to be sure and it came out negative. So now I am still wondering what the back ache and pelvic pain could be a result of. I think the pelvic pain is worse after eating and feels a bit like menstrual cramps. After a while it develops an almost bubbly feeling, as if bubble wrap is getting popped in my abdomen if that makes sense. The pain occasionally seems to spread to my groins. It can sometimes have a sharp sensation to it as well. Although it is worse after eating it does seem to be there most of the time, just much milder, kinda like a stitch. I also have a dull ache in my lower back which occasionally spreads upwards, causing my neck to be a bit sore, but the neck ache is not exactly anything different from a muscular ache, so it could also just be that. I'm not really sure what the cause of the pelvic or back ache could be, but I'm a bit concerned cause it doesn't seem to be going away. Any advice is much appreciated.

Brief Answer:
Muscular pain likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The pain in the lower back and pelvis can be a muscular pain or related to posture or exertion to which your body is not used to. If ibuprofen/ paracetamol are not helping you then you can take a muscle relaxant and do a hot fomentation in your lower back. Pregnancy is ruled out since you had periods twice after that episode.
The following measures will help with the pain
• Lie on a hard bed.
• Correct your posture while sitting
• Avoid prolonged sitting
• Avoid strenuous activity & lifting heavy weights.
• Apply diclofenac gel on the affected area. Warm compresses will also help.

Adequate rest and proper nutrition is equally important. Drink lots of fluids since dehydration affects the disc. Eat a diet rich in fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables, nuts, milk, eggs, pulses and cereals.Do brisk walking exercise for 40 minutes daily. Get 6-8 hours of refreshing sleep daily.

Wishing you good health.
