What Causes Body Chills After Having Protected Intercourse?

default
Posted on Thu, 18 Sep 2014
Question: Hello Doctor,

About a week ago, I had protected sex with my girlfriend. A day and a half later, I suddenly had body chills, changing back and forth between sweating and shivering, in addition to aches throughout my body. That Monday night (the sex occurred the previous Friday) I noticed I had a small scab in a solid line in addition to a few very small scab bumps on the side of my shaft which I am positive was not there before the sex occurred. It is now Wednesday and I'm wondering if I have acquired some sort of STD from my girlfriend. Today, the body chills finally stopped (although I have had nasty headaches today). Any advice is appreciated!!!

Best,
A man in need

Detailed Answer:
Hi there Man in need.
I hear you & empathise with you but fear you are looking for a little more than empathy!
You did mention the chills et al have subsided but no mention of the scabs.
If my guess is right, then the whole issue of the scabs & chills appear 'unrelated'. It just sounds like it was a 'chance' happening & one was friction induced (scab) & the other 'viral' fever.
I will say simply this. Nothing is to be done. As it was 'protected sex' all is well. Do check on your girlfriend...she may have similar symptoms or not if her general immunity was better than yours. Take a paracetamol/Tylenol 500/650mg for the headache SOS. & can be taken up to 3 times daily safely. Please do 'hydrate' yourself well with fluids & all will be well in the next 24-48 hrs.
Trust this advice has been specific & assured you all is well. No need for any tests. Do check on your friend.
Cheers & Godspeed!
