default
Posted on Fri, 9 Dec 2016
Question: I just discovered blood in my urine. I am a 66 y/o female. I have been extremely fatigued for the past couple of weeks. I have lower back pain that started about 2 hours ago. I have had a very foul smelling discharge from my belly button for more than a month. I also have abdominal cramping. Is this an emergency or can it wait until Monday so I can see my family doctor?

Brief Answer:
Should go to ER now..

Detailed Answer:
Hi my dear,

I am sorry for the health situation you are going through.

1. Blood in urine is indicating that the urinary pathways are being inflamed and lacerated mist probably due to infection or stones.

2. Having a foul smelling discharge coming from your belly button is also indicating possible infection.

As you are having abdominal pain too, and considering other symptoms you have, if I was your caring doctor would advise to go to ER for immediate evaluation and treatment.

You need prescription antibiotics to take orally, and lab tests to run to evaluate the status of your urinary pathways (complete blood count, urine analysis, abdominal ultrasound).

For the moment, until you go to ER, I advise to take painkiller like ibuprofen or mephenamic acid to reduce the abdominal pain.

Keep good hygiene of your belly button, wash with warm water and antibacterial soap, rinse well as, dry it well and apply betaine locally.

Increase water intake and take cranberry supplement to stabilize urine pH.

Wish fast recovery.
