What Causes Blood In Semen?

Question: As my record shows, I have blood in the sperm for the last two years. Today the doctor asked for a transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) but I have not seen the doctor yet. The Ultrasound guy told me that there are some stones in the vas deferens and blood clot. Please tell me if this is serious and is it treatable and how.

Please also, I need can this be anything other than stone/clot?

Thanks for query .You are facing problem of Hematospermia since 2 years and all the basic tests have been inconclusive and can not detect any pathology and have recently done Trans Rectal Ultrasound Scanning ( TRUS) and technician who performed scanning has told you to have stones and blood clot in Vas Difference However finding is yet to be confirmed by qualified Radiologist .

I have gone through our previous thread of discussion on your long standing problem of Hematospermia in which I have suggested you to undergo Selective Angiography to study the Vascular Architecture of Prostate .

The stones either in Vas Difference or Seminal Vesicle can cause Hematospermia but in majority of cases hematospermia gets resolved spontaneously.

In view of you having this issue since two years I would suggest you to go for MRI of pelvis which is highly specific than ultrasound Scanning and or selective angiography to help to establish diagnosis.

Consult qualified Urologist to explore the cause of Hematospermia .

Please answer my question. Suppose the technician is right. The stone and blood clot in the vas deferens.

He is a qualified radiologist.

The stones are not in the seminal Vesicle but in the vas deferens

Thanks for follow up .

The stones in the Vas Difference are mostly due to calcified hematoma .The possibility of infective origin has to be ruled out by doing semen culture and taking appropriate antibiotic as per culture report .

I still suggest you to get MRI done to be more precise about diagnosis

If the stones in the vas difference do not get cured spontaneously .They can be removed by surgery by excision of portion of Vas Difference that contains stones .
