What Causes Bloating Of Stomach After Eating Food?

default
Posted on Mon, 18 May 2015
Question: I am in good health but have often experienced bloating after eating even small amounts. Once in a while I get a "stitch" (not really painful) where my gallbladder would be, except I no longer have one.
Sometimes I feel too full or queasy. Thank you. PS I am 81 but feel 70. This is ridiculous but even one glass of wine seems to help. Coffee sometimes makes me feel "acidic". I have no bowel problems. Thank you. I am 81 but feel 70.

Brief Answer:
Colon cramps

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM with your health care concerns.

you are concerned about having pain in your right upper quadrant where your gallbladder used to be. The pain you are experiencing is most likely colon spasms. The sharp pain is from the colon becoming bloated with air after eating. This distention causes pain and your body interprets the pain as coming from the right upper quadrant. This is very common and not something to worry about. If drinking wine helps reduce the pain then by all means continue one glass with meals. You may also try using simethicone with your meals. This will reduce the gas and prevent the distention and pain.

In summary
1. Bloating caused by gas in the colon
2. Pain caused by distention of the colon
3. Continue wine and try simethicone to reduce the gas and bloating.

Brief Answer:
Air in the colon

Detailed Answer:
The air in the colon is caused by 2 things. One air that we swallow which is not much but the main culprit is the gas that is formed from bacteria in the GI tract. The reason that you get bloated right after eating is that the colon starts to move and all the little gas pockets combine and make larger gas or air pockets. There is very little one can do to reduce the boating other than things I already mentioned.
