Question: Dear doctor,

Yesterday evening my daughter took a blood test and they had to take the sample from vein in th e elbow region. Today morning that spot has turned black.
I am attaching the picture.
Please check and let know if it is an infection or some issue and what needs to be done now.

Brief Answer:
no infection as such

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

It is common for any person to have this black spot after an access has been made into the vein.

I have seen the uploaded image. There is no infection or any other issue. It is just a superficial bruit.

You can apply Ointment Thrombophob on the affected area 3 to 4 times daily for 2 days. You can also apply ice packs locally.

It should be gone in a couple of days; not to worry.

take care!

Thanks for reply doctor.
We have started applying ice pack since yesterday.

Can you clarify how many days it takes for it to disappear?

Is it a blood lot?

Does it stay for more days if the blood sample was taken from side vein?
Does the picture show the blood to have been taken from side vein?

Brief Answer:
Maximum, it would take a week to disappear

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

It would take a maximum of a week to disappear. It should be gone in 5 days usually.

There is no blood clot there now, it is the colour of the vein.

No, not necessarily it stays for more days if blood sample was taken from side vein. Yes, the blood is drawn from the side vein.

Please relax; there is nothing to be worried and concerned about this. It would go away soon. Please put your mind at ease with regards to this problem.
