What Causes Back Pain While Exercising?

default
Posted on Mon, 21 Apr 2014
Question: I've got backache. It started almost 2 week ago when I had a terrible cough...and I had to take a long flight back home..and that made things a tad worse. after applying some piano relief ointment the pain really subsided.. however there is still some left...especially when I try to bend too much (while excersing). is there a way to test if it just a sprain or slip disk or should I go to a doctor immediately? Please advise.

Brief Answer: Slip disc produces sciatica pain Detailed Answer: Hi Thanks for writing your query. After going through your description the most likely cause seems to be severe muscle spasm of back leading to difficulty in bending movement. My advice for you would be – 1. Take rest preferably in lying down position and avoid prolong sitting and exercise. 2. Hot water fomentation has a soothing effect on stiff muscle. 3. I would like to treat you with Tab.Thiosaps A8 along with local gel like Flexabenz. Since these are prescription drugs you may have to contact your local doctor. 4. For early recovery you may have Physiotherapy in form of short wave diathermy and TENS. It usually takes 3-5 days time for stiff muscles to relax. As far as slip disc is concern it produces a pain (sciatica) which radiates from back to leg right up to foot going along the back of thigh and leg. It may be associated with numbness and tingling sensation in leg. A simple test to rule out a major slip disc is try to walk on your heels and then on your toes. If you can then be at ease. If you develop any above mentioned sign then you should visit your local doctor. Take care and I shall be glad to answer any further query.
