What Causes Anxiety And Irritation While On Prozac?

Question: I am on adderall, xanax, and my doctor just put me on prozac. I am anxious, sad, extremely irritable and just over feel terrible. I am on my 3rd week of prozac. Is my body just trying to adjust to the prozac or is this just a terrible mixture of meds?

I understand your concern. Prozac is a good antidepressant. It can alleviate symptoms of depression in about 2-3 weeks of continuous use. It should not be combined with Adderall as Prozac may potentiate the adverse effects of Adderall. This may cause restlessness, anxiety, insomnia, irritability and anger. Already you are experiencing these symptoms. So it is better to optimise your therapy. In my opinion Adderall should be discontinued and only Prozac with increased dose of Xanax should be continued. Increased dose of Xanax will help in alleviating current symptoms of anxiety, terrible feeling and irritability. After 2-3 weeks the dose of Xanax may be tapered.
