What Causes Acidity While On Nexium And Prilosec?

default
Posted on Fri, 18 Sep 2015
Question: I have been taking Nexium for about 6 months and I took Prilosec for 10 or 12 years prior to that. I have also been taking one Zantac a day. After learning about the side effects of the Prilosec and Nexium class of drugs I decided to try to switch entirely to Zantac. I was unsuccessful at simply switching from Nexium to Zantac because it caused very high acid rebound effect. I then decided to try tapering down to one Nexium every other day for two weeks and then going to one Nexium every third day for two weeks while substituting Zantac for the Nexium. I then switched to just taking 2 Zantacs a day about three weeks. I am still having problems with high acidity . I have read about taking apple cider vinegar and water twice a day and I 'm wondering if that works. I've also read that persimmon tea might help. Otherwise,do you have any suggestions? Thank you.

Any alcohol or habit of foods and beverages that you know of enhancing your problems?
Any other relevant history that can add to our discussion to get the proper diagnosis and better management of your problems

It is a long time that you have been taking the acid suppressants, Prilosec for 10 to 12 years, Nexium for 6 months and now Zantac.
Liked the way you tapered the dosage and trying to adjust the dosages.

It would be difficult to say about apple cider vinegar and water twice a day or persimmon tea as these do not come under the studies and always as per the hearsay. I have not really come across any patient who has been benefited in this way.

Please give the feedback so that we can discuss further.
