What Causes Abdominal Pain After Taking Prostap Injection?

default
Posted on Mon, 31 Aug 2015
Question: Hi

I had a prostap injection around 3 weeks ago for fibroids. This week I have had abdominal pain. I have also started bleeding I wondered if this is normal and how long the bleeding is likely to last?

I was under the impression that my periods would stop with prostap. I am unsure if this is a normal period or a side effect of the injection. I had the injection at the end of my last period.

Thank you

Brief Answer:

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to healthcare magic.

I understand your concern.

In my opinion the bleeding can be a side effect of prostap injection or a normal period.
But before giving you any suggestions I would like to know the following things:-
1)How are your periods regular or irregular usually?
2)Since how many days you have the fibroids?
Kindly provide me the information.
Looking forward to hear from you.

Hi

My periods are regular normally around 28 days although can sometimes be 21 days. The pain is different this time though.

I believe I have had issues with fibroids over 5 years.

Brief Answer:
it might be a period or prostap effect

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, thanks for the information. I understand your concern.

In my opinion prostap injection is indicated in case of fibroids. It decreases the size of fibroids and there by decrease in the bleeding.
The bleeding can occur after the prostap injection due to increase in estrogen hormone. This bleeding is usually seen 1-2 weeks after injection. But this might not be seen with continued therapy.
Sometimes the bleeding occurs due to fibroid degeneration.
So considering your cycle length the bleeding appears to be your normal period.
But as you have high bleeding consult your doctor to decrease the bleeding.

Hope this satisfies your query.
Feel free to discuss furthur.
Best regards...Dr.srilatha
