What Causes A Soft Cyst-like Growing Bump Above My Hairline?

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Feb 2017
Question: I have a soft, cyst-like bump above my hairline, on my head, that is painless but slowly growing in size. It's a little more than pea size right now. Any ideas about what this is? Should I see my internist or seek a specialist to assess? Thanks XXXXXXX YYYY@YYYY

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Thank you for posting your question on Health Care.
By the description you have given it could be two possibilities one is a sebaceous cyst, which is more likely because it occurs commonly in the place you have described. Unless it gets infected there is no need to worry about it.

The second possibility is a lipoma. I can give you a surer idea if you could describe the swelling more like if it is soft or hard to touch? can it be moved or is it fixed?over how many days have noticed the growth?

Please put up a picture also. Regarding the specialist who deals with it either way it is better to get it evaluated by a general surgeon.

Hope this helps
Best wishes

It is soft and cannot be seen in a photo. Too small. Seems fixed in one place. I'll have it evaluated.
