Brief Answer:
as explained in details.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
To recapitulate: Male/65 - pain above the waist on left - sharp pain on coughing or laughing - constantly uncomfortable ...
The commonest cause I can think of such symptoms is costochondritis of the lower ribs with inflammation spreading to nearby muscles too.
Please see if there is local tenderness that is increase in pain on pressure.
Myalgia also can cause similar problem.
Diseases of lower part of the lungs and pleura can also cause such symptoms.

I would advise you the following:
Clinical evaluation and examination of the local area by a Doctor. This will help to confirm the probable diagnosis of costochondritis or rule this out and find other possible causes related to the kidney and colon on the same side; this will further need investigations like X-ray of the chest and Ultrasonography of the whole abdomen.

Anti-inflammatory medicines like Ibuprofen in proper dosages and duration if it suits you.
Rest to the area by avoiding any movements or work that can increase stress and strain on the affected area.
Keep bowels soft by laxatives if required.
Try and avoid laughing, coughing, sneezing.

I hope this answer helps you to get an early and appropriate diagnosis and further management, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
