Posted on Mon, 11 May 2015
Question: Hi, my husband drinks 60ml ( 3caps)phenyl almost 12hrs ago. We went to doctor they said that 3caps won't hurt, if they have to admit him then there will be police case. Because of this my husband refused.
Well, 12hrs pass, he is not feeling any burning sensation or anything. His throat and tongue burns initially, he spit so many times, he had cakes, bread and cold milk and water within 1hr. He said he is feeling normal except not feeling taste of anything. Kindly advise

Brief Answer:
Please consult gastroenterologist for upper gastrointestinal endoscopy

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. Please discuss with the doctor and do complete blood and urine test to know if there is any complication.

2. Keep a check on his breathing and it is better to get a chest X ray done to know if his lungs are alright.

3. Phenyl is a corrosive agent and can burn the esophagus and stomach lining. It is suggested that he consults a gastroenterologist and then gets an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy done to know the amount of damage to esophagus and stomach. Treatment might be required if there is severe burn in lining of esophagus and stomach.

4. Please take him to psychiatrist to solve any mental health problem and not to repeat any such incident again.

5. He should drink lots of fluids and take soft foods

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek
