Usually the presentation hyperthyroidism differ in adult and elderly.
The symptoms in adult are more prominent and in elderly is usually diagnosed after a thyroid function control in a patient diagnosed with atrial fibrillation.
There are multiple common symptoms of hyperthyroidism. These symptoms include fatigue, changes in appetite, increased sweating, restlessness, intolerance of heat, difficulty concentrating, palpitations or rapid heart beat and weight loss. Tremor is common in more severe forms.
Another common symptom of hyperthyroidism is the development of a goiter, which is a swelling a the base of the neck due to an enlarged thyroid.
Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea are seen more rarely
In females irregular menstrual cycle may be one of the presenting symptom.
Graves' disease (autoimmune pathology) may have also ocular symptoms (exophtalmia, swelling of the palpebra, excess tears, Pruritus ect)
