Question: hello, I'm very worried, I'm a student and regretfully i had a one night stand, but i used protection but then i noticed the the guy took the condom off for a couple of minuets, but soon as i noticed i stopped. it's three weeks after now and i developed a sore case of tonsillitis and developed white bits on both my tonsils and a little rash that went in a couple of days, and after reading the internet I'm so worried that I've got HIV!!! is three weeks too early to have symptoms. i went to the doctor to sort out my tonsillitis and she gave me medicine straight away and then the tonsillitis went in a couple of days would HIV tonsillitis go with medication? please help!
the rash was on my legs.

Brief Answer:
get tested for HIV

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question.
It is unlikely that you have HIV from one encounter, however it is possible. The incubation period for HIV is 2-4 weeks so your symptoms including sore throat could be due to HIV infection if they showed up 3 weeks after this possible exposure. Medication would not help the sore throat from HIV go away so this was more likely a strep throat which can also cause a rash.
However, you need to be tested for HIV to be sure. You need a test now and a repeat test in 3 months to make sure that you do not have HIV.
It is much better to get tested and make sure you are negative than to keep worrying about it.
