What Are The Side Effects Of Taking Zoloft?

default
Posted on Thu, 16 Mar 2017
Question: Hello!
Do you have any info on what the side effects could be from taking Zoloft and XXXXXXX snakeroot together?
I have been taking a product with it in and took first Zoloft yesterday and took the product yesterday but quit yesterday.. I had numbness in my throat yesterday that went away. Now today the numbness keeps coming and going.. It has ne worried this could be an interaction with snakeroot but I cant find any side effects other than they say do not combine with SSRI's My herbalist told me don't worry about it, it will be fine... XXXX
Also wanted to ask.. If this is a drug/herbal interaction, how long will I need to wait for it to clear out to start taking Zoloft?

Brief Answer:
A brief history and finally my opinion

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. I am sorry to learn about your discomfort, but I need you to know something before we proceed.

As you might have heard, all medications from English medicine allopathy have to undergo a 4 level study in order to be accepted in the market. Although the drug only needs to pass the first three levels after which it can be released for use by the public, the fourth level studies the long-term side effects of the drug, which if unpleasant can lead to the medication being withdrawn from the market.

These levels are in place to study not just efficacy of the drug, but more importantly its side effects on the human population.

But, there exist no such studies for herbal medicine, ayurveda, and homeopathy. Once a drug or medication or product is produced, it can be marketed and sold instantaneously, resulting in no information on the side effects, drug interactions, and so on.

So although your herbalist has reassured you, he has done so only with his experience, as there exists no information even in the herbal medicine textbook about drug interactions or side effects.

In my opinion, if you have experienced side effects or a reaction to only zoloft and the XXXXXXX snakeroot together and not with any other combinations (e.g. another drug while you are using the XXXXXXX snakeroot), then this could be a case of an interaction, and you will have to replace/substitute either one of them sir.

Your next question:

Also wanted to ask.. If this is a drug/herbal interaction, how long will I need to wait for it to clear out to start taking Zoloft?

If the interaction was between XXXXXXX snakeroot and the zoloft, then you can choose to start Zoloft only after:

1. Your symptoms of drug interaction subside completely

2. Once it has been at least 3-7 days since the last time you used the XXXXXXX snakeroot

I hope you find my response helpful. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.

Thanks great answer...
Have you ever heard of this side effect from taking Zoloft? numbness (for me it is in back of my throat) I see its a withdrawal symptom but can it be a side effect?

Maybe it is not related to the snakeroot at all...

Also just curious if it is side effect.. I'm on 50mg a day.. How many days does it take for there to be a maximum dosage in my body with the half life?

I had a pretty bad reaction yesterday that lasted for about 2 hrs, but the reaction today wasn't as strong but it came and went..
Also one more question... I only took it 2 days. Can I just stop and give it a few days before I try it again? I wasn't on it long enough to have to go off slowly was I?

Brief Answer:
Quite possible, but let us conclude after trying it just once more

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again.

Thank you sir.

Yes, it could be along with other side effects relating to the oral cavity like soreness, poor control of the muscles of the oral cavity, difficulty swallowing, ulcers, bleeding gums, muscle twitches in the region, hoarseness of voice, difficulty speaking, difficulty breathing, etc.

It would take only a few days in my opinion (less than a week approximately) for that.

Yes you can sir, but if you experience any other symptoms that could indicate a withdrawal, please visit a doctor or write to me immediately.

Best wishes.
