What Are The Risks Of LANAP Procedure?

default
Posted on Mon, 24 Oct 2016
Question: I have some questions for a periodontist. I would really appreciate it if you could help answer these questions:

1. What are the indications a connective tissue graft has failed? If part of the area where the connective tissue graft was place has turned white 8 days after surgery, does that mean the graft or part of the graft has failed or died? What would you recommend in that case?

2. How long after surgery can the patient start lifting heavy weights again in the gym?
3. What are some of the risks and disadvantages or LANAP laser procedure?
4. What happens to the patient's palate after the tissue is taken during a grafting procedure? does it regrow and can the area be used again?

Brief Answer:
Does not look like failed graft, but need clinical evaluation..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

As per your complain LANAP laser procedure is bone regeneration and gym reattachment procedure that helps in preventing tooth loss caused due to severe gum infection that causes bone loss and gum recession..

- At times the gums can change colour and can appear whitish, reddish etc and it can be a part of healing rather than failed graft, however get a clinical examination done for further confirmation..

-You should wait for atleast 2 months and after that also after getting proper checkup done only you should proceed for any heavy lifting or chewing anything very hard..

-Most common risk of any surgical procedure can be infection and same goes with LANAP procedure, therefore proper oral hygiene should be maintained..

- Do not worry as the palate will heal soon and you can very much use the area again..

Any further questions are welcome..

Hope this helps..

Regards..

Hi
thank you for your response.

Could you please confirm - does tissue regrow in the palate where the gum graft was taken? Could you please elaborate?

Do you suggest waiting a full 2 months before doing any heavy lifting in the gym?

Also, if you do not mind me asking what happens if the gum graft has failed?

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Welcome back..

-Yes, tissues will gradually regrow over the palate..

-Waiting time will depend upon healing, if healing is quick you can even start workout earlier after your dentist consent..

- If at all the gum graft fails, then ruling out for the cause of graft failure and then re-treatment is the option..

Any further questions are welcome..

Regards..
