What Are The Repercussions Of Swallowing A Small Chicken Bone?
Question: I almost choked on a small chicken bone and ended up swallowing it, it did scratch the top of mouth near the uvula. Went to the er for x-rays and found nothing stuck in my throat. This was last night. Will my stomach acids dissolve most of the bone? Should I be worried?
Brief Answer:
should be fine
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
The acids/enzymes in the GI tract will dissolve some of it.
The rest will pass out likely unchanged in your stool.
Once it is clear of the throat , as was seen by the xray , there are usually no problems and you should be fine.
There may be pain due to the scratch so you may want to use soft foods, avoid hot/spicy foods till it heals.
An anti inflammatory pain killer would help with discomfort as well eg ibuprofen, cataflam, naproxen
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
