What Are The Chances Of Pregnancy After Taking I-pill?

default
Posted on Fri, 18 Sep 2015
Question: Hi,
I had my last periods on 2nd August which lasted till 6th August. I had sex with my boyfriend on 8th August. Since it was my first time my hymen broke and bleeding happened which obviously I washed out very properly on the spot. My boyfriend had used condom but after the activity while we were done with the sex part and were just lying on the bed next to each other, due to some things, his condom slipped a little from the upper end and he said that as such no liquid had come out that had gotten accumulated on the inner side of the tip of the condom (the thick white liquid that contains sperm was accumulated on the tip end inside). After that we did not try anything. Around 6 hours after this activity, I took an iPill as well since I was a bit afraid. Everything was fine until 15th August, when unexpected vaginal bleeding started. Though it lasted for about 3 days and was not as heavy as my normal menstrual bleeding is, I was still worried.

My question is that:
1) Since the day we had sex is just effectively 8th day from my previous menstrual cycle ( I had read that chances of pregnancy are very low during this time because the ovulation has not started ), is there a possibility of any pregnancy after all the conditions of using condom as well as iPill stated ( we had protected sex but just to assure I took the iPill)?
2) Can I expect my next periods to be delayed because of the iPill or the vaginal bleeding that happened mid way through the month?
3) After having the condition of condom and the iPill as well, are there still any chances of pregnancy?
4) Does the vaginal bleeding that happened confirm that I dont need to worry about pregnancy?

Please clear my apprehensions and doubts.
Thanks

Brief Answer:
Almost no chances of pregnancy.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
Let me answer your questions one by one -
1. Yes, possibility of pregnancy resulting from unprotected sex on day 8 of cycle is very remote. Plus you used condoms and took the I pill. I would go so far as to say that there is absolutely no chance of pregnancy.
2. The unexpected bleeding that you had was mostly withdrawal bleeding. Yes, your next period might be postponed or preponed or have varying amount of menstrual blood compared to normal. That is expected after intake of i pill, so do not worry.
3. No, there are no chances of pregnancy.
4. The vaginal bleeding does not confirm anything, you need to take a pregnancy test 15 days after the episode occurred.
All the best.
