Question: I accidentally hit my head against a steel beam today. I now have a bump the size of a quarter & some initial pain. I do not have any symptoms of brain or skull injury or concussion symptoms now 4 hours after the hit. What is a general timeframe of wen I should be watching myself for any serious brain or skull injury?

Brief Answer:
24 hours is a sufficient time.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HealthcareMagic.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

There are no exact timeframes about the onset of symptoms after such a blow to the head. However, since you didn't experience any symptoms till now that may point towards brain injury, it is very unlikely that there will be any such in the following hours.

Generally, it is acceptable that if you don't experience any symptoms such loss of consciousness, nausea, and vomiting, moderate to severe headaches, vision issues, amnesia, lethargy, etc. within 24 hours, then chances of significant brain injury are very minimal.

Hope you found the answer helpful. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.
