What Causes Dizziness, Nausea And Loss Of Appetite After Taking Verapamil Tablet?

I have been taking Verapamil180mg for 3.5 months and coversyl 8mg for 2 months, 1each per day for high BP. I have experiened dizziness, nausea, loss of appetite, fuzzy thinking, numbness, lethargy and just a general feeling of not wanting to do anything, even the activities that I found great joy in. And since I started these meds I m impotent. I stopped taking verapamil 4 days ago and almost immediately did not experience the nausea and gained some appetite back. When I check my BP in the evening it fluctuates between 170/89 to 159/84 over 1/2 time testing it 4-5 times in that time frame. Do you think the meds are causing the ED? I have an appointment with my internal medicene DR. nest week as I am very frustrated with the symptoms. What do you think can these meds cause the ED. Thanks DN

Hi,

Verapamil is a calcium channel blocker medication used for high blood pressure and to treat certain heart conditions. Dizziness, nausea, and loss of appetite are common side effects of this medication, and you may be experiencing these symptoms as a result of taking Verapamil. These side effects can often improve or disappear over time as your body adjusts to the medication.

It is also possible that Verapamil may be contributing to your erectile dysfunction (ED) symptoms. Erectile dysfunction is a known side effect of some blood pressure medications, including Verapamil. However, it is important to discuss your symptoms with your doctor as there can be many potential causes of ED.

It's good that you have an appointment with your internal medicine doctor next week. Your doctor may suggest changes to your medication regimen, lifestyle modifications, or further testing to help manage your symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
