What Are The After Effects Of Consuming Burnt Plastic By A Toddler?

default
Posted on Tue, 24 Jan 2017
Question: Hi. I heated some food for my toddler in what I thought was a microwave safe freezer bag. The bag got very hot and began to melt a little at the corners. I didn't think much of it and gave him the food. I later read that the bag was not suitable for heating and I'm now terrified that I could have harmed him, e.g. put him at risk of cancer. Can you advise me if this is possible?

Brief Answer:
highly unlikely with single exposure; keep close eye on child

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thank You for contacting HCM. My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way. Its unlikely for single exposure to cause cancer. Most common adverse effects include diarrhea & vomiting. I would suggest you to closely observe your child for any unusual symptom like altered state of consciousness, loose motions, vomiting or lethargy.. If you find any of such symptom then you should take your child to nearby hospital for workup.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
