a level blood pressure?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Benard Shehu (1 hour later)
Brief Answer:
Diet changes/physical activity/medications...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

1. Diet is very important to maintain a normal level of blood pressure. I usually advise my patients to avoid:
- salty foods
- caffeinated drinks
- alcohol
- smoking

2. Physical activity is also important. So, I encourage to get more physically involved especially when it comes to walking or jogging.

3. Taking your medications properly: If your blood pressure is lower than 100/80, I advise to reduce the dose of Edarbychlor, but do not stop using it on your own. Rebound effect is the result if you stop taking them at all.

All the best!

What do you mean by 'rebound'?
Have cut Edabrychlor in half and
also am taking 50 mg of Metoprolol Er
Instead of 100 mg.in the morning.
I am supposed to take 10mg of
Isradipine in the afternoon however
BP reads 102/64
Shall I take 5mg or none ? Shall I
Resume Metoprolol in evening with 50mg
What would be a good rule in making
a decision to taking or reducing BP
Medications ? If BP is over 100? 125?
WhAt about systolic reading?

Brief Answer:
Stop Isradipine reduce other drugs if BP < 100 mmHg...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

1. "Rebound"effect has to deal with spikes in blood pressure when medications are stopped abruptly withing weaning off.

2. The Higher range when you should start reducing the dose is 100 mmHg although the decision is made depending on different individuals (90 to up to 110). This is the upper limit (also called systolic).

3. For the moment, I advise to stop taking the calcium-blocker drug Isradipine. You can restart if your blood pressure would reach 140 mmHg (by starting 5 mg/daily).

Hope it answered to your queries!

I take Isradipine for hypertension plus the benefit for slowing the progress of
Parkinson's syndrome. There is a $27
Million dollar study to show the affect of
Isradipine on Parkinson's syndrome currently conducted by the XXXXXXX J. Fox
Org.
Since I take Carbidopa levodopa on a regular basis to help relieve the Dystonia
That prevents me from walking and I am not sure about the relationship between
Dystonia and Parkinson's syndrome, what other BP medication would you
Reduce ? Metoprolol ? Doxazosin?
I also have a continuous headache ;
Could that be caused by one of the BP
Meds?

Answered by Dr. Benard Shehu (20 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Stop Doxazosin...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

Thank you for following up.

1. If your neurologist recommended to take Isradipine for its beneficial effect on Parkinson, then, I advise to continue taking it as prescribed by your neurologist. However I recommend to take half the dose in order to reduce its hypotensive effect.

2. I advise to stop taking doxazosin that could trigger/aggravate your headaches.

3. Meanwhile, do not forget to monitor your BP, record the results for future reference.
