Question: Hi, I have been taking .5 to 1 mg of klonopin at night to sleep for about 2 years. My rx ran out and I have not had it in over a week. I have had a fuzzy feeling in the head, sleepy, tingling sensations and weird feelings like my arak aren't there. Is this withdrawal? I'm waiting on the doctor to refill my rx.

Brief Answer:
Yes these symptoms are probably occurring due to withdrawal.

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Klonopin or Clonazepam is a benzodiazepine drug and it is one of commonly used hypnotic and anti anxiety drug. The drug is known to cause tolerance and this results in development of dependence and if its use is stopped suddenly then withdrawal syndrome. In most cases symptoms like restlessness, insomnia, anxiety, tremors, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, numbness of hands etc are seen. In some severe cases seizures or some times may progress to delirium. So it is advised to reduce the doses of the drug by tapering the doses and not by reducing the dose abruptly.

The symptoms like fuzzy feeling in head, sleepiness, tingling, weird sensations etc are due to withdrawal most probably. But since you hadn't taken the doses since last 7 days so you have passed the acute phase of withdrawal and risk of seizures and delirium is less so no need to worry. If you can tolerate the symptoms then there is no problem and no need to worry.

Try to remain calm and take healthy light meals. Avoid excess tea, coffee or drinks for some days. If possible visit a doctor and take proper treatment of your symptoms. Medicines like Gabapentin or Pregabalin are very useful in benzodiazepine withdrawal. These medicines help in good sleep and reduces the anxiety symptoms. So if symptoms worsens then visit a doctor for evaluation.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Please dont hesitate to ask again for more doubts.

Take care
