Question: Hi, my daughter aged 31 years , also having diabetes type 2 and thyroid gallstones and PCOs has been recently diagnised as having "hypersensitive stomach syndrome " and the doctor told it is a part of IBS (irritable bowel syndrome).. She was taking Rifagut 550 mg thrice daily and BISTLA capsules once daily for last six weeks. She completed the course and stopped the tablets two days back. Today she ate some "fried" items and sincethen she is having watery stools every one hour or so. She tried the following tablets to arrest the motions , but without any success; 1) Sporlac 2) Eldoper . What is the underlying problem of her and would you kindly suggest a suitable SOS tablet to arrest her motions and possible line of treatment?

Brief Answer:
Get complete haemogram and stool examination to see for any infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist.

I can understand your concerns regarding your daughter

It is either a part of IBS or infection of GI tract.

So I will suggest you to get complete haemogram and stool examination to see for any infection and if it is there then give her a course of antibiotic like ofloxacin 200mg twice a day for 5 days

Meanwhile Continue with sporolac thrice a day, tab eldoper thrice a day. Also give her Tab Rifaximin 400mg twice a day for 14 days. Add another antisecretory agent like Racedrotil to be taken thrice a day 100mg Capsule.

Both Eldoper and Racedrotil can be given on SOS basis. Usually one among these help in arresting diarrhoea, but if it is not controlled with one then both can be given

I hope I have answered your query and this will help you . Wish you a good health

Hi doctor,
Thanks for the reply. Regarding her diet , whether she should "strictly" avoid any fried foor items , in order to avoid worsening her condition? Also, whether she can eat items like Biscuits/cookies and Poha/Mixture etc. such items ?
Also, among fruits, which fruits are preferable for her to eat ?
